My flight change this morning had caused a spiral of random events. Random things happening to me is probably a normal thing…I guess good thing I’m not klutzy or I’d be in real trouble! Or am I? The airline was offering a direct flight from HNL->SFO later at 1pm instead of 7:15am (HNL->LAX->SFO) and $300 flight credit. Sweet deal! Not to mention my initial flight was free via my air miles
. I couldn’t pass on the offer so I had about 5 hours to kill. I rather be in Hawaii than stuck at LAX for the 3 hour layover. My friend picked me up and we grabbed some food and headed to a beach park near the airport. I must have just been chattering on and on (as usual). I didn’t know I dropped my wallet until we drove to Hickam Beach and was about to check out the scene. I walked out the car and felt my pocket was missing something. Yikes, my wallet’s gone! I swear I had it when I bought the Liliha “no sugar” coco puffs. I panicked a bit as I had my IDs and all my debit/credit cards in there. How was I gonna board the plane back to SF? Luckily I had my passport stashed with my laptop bag but the thought of starting my trip with such bad luck…not good. I searched around and nothing. It must be in the park!!! A homeless guy walked past us earlier wanting the soda cans when we were done with it. What if…
My friend drove us back to the park but with the speed limit inside Hickam, it took a lil longer. Hmm, my mind was veering, thinking of all the banks I have to call to cancel my cards, and I won’t have any credit cards to use in SF. Right after, my brother calls me, “You lost your wallet? Some guy called and said he found it.” He gave me the guy’s cell number. Just as I call I see two maintenance guys on the side as we drove into the park. One guy picked up his cell as my call went thru. Whew, he had it! I went to meet him and got my wallet back, all cards and cash intact. I looked thru the cards, how did he ever know to call my bro? I pulled out my Hawaii ID, and on the back it had printed, “In case of emergency notify:” Indeed an emergency and the guy was a lifesaver! I <3 Hawaii, there are still honest people!
